Build a Racing Mixer
In this easy-to-build module, you’ll create a peg board which can shuffle up marbles at the start of a race. Combine this with our Starting Gate template and find out who’s marble team is the fastest
What You’ll Need
- Racing Mixer Design Template
- Cardboard (corrugated)
- Wooden Dowels or Chopsticks (about 6mm diameter)
- Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
- Box Cutter or Sharp Scissors (and an Adult’s Help)
STEP 1
Set Up
You can start off by using the ruler on the design template to help you cut a dowel or chopstick down into 2.5 cm pieces. You’re going to need 12 for this project. Make sure you get an adult’s help to cut them down to size. You can also glue your pieces from the Design Template onto a piece of corrugated cardboard and cut them out at this time.
STEP 2
The Frame
The next step would be to lightly cut along the dotted lines on the template pieces. By only cutting through about half-way, you are able to bend the cardboard, which we can combine with a bit of hot glue to keep it in place. Do this with all th sides to build the frame of this module
STEP 4
The Pegs
The final step requires you to glue your pegs into your frame. The best method for this is to put a blob of glue on the bottom side of your frame, and then push a peg through from the topside. This will prevent blobs of glue from forming on the top side and blocking your marbles. When finished, add a little extra glue to the bottom of each peg for stability
And now you’ve completed your Racing Mixer module. As Marbles enter from the top, they will funnel through the pegs and be randomly mixed up for the race that follows. Combine this with other Design Templates like the Starting Gate or our Pathways, and you have the recipe for a marvelous Marble Run Race!
