Due to ongoing renovations, all July STEAMLabs camps will be held upstairs in Suite 501 of the CSI building at 192 Spadina. All our equipment is being stored in this upstairs space and the camp activities will go on as planned. Thank you for your understanding.
Throughout the two weeks of this summer camp program, the participants will learn to use the Arduino programming language to create their own robots! You will also learn the fundamentals of HTML and CSS to develop the web interface to control their robot and read its sensors. Learn the basics of digital design and fabrication to 3D print your robot parts. Learn to send messages from Minecraft to your robot.
Each student will make their own individual project as well as participating in a larger group project. Join forces to create something amazing!
Make a remote controlled creature that shows its mood through it’s colour changing eyes. Program a trip-wire in your Minecraft world to set off an alarm bell on your desk. Monitor your hamster’s water level and send you an email when it’s low. Wire up an Internet brain to anything you can think of, the possibilities are endless!
The camp price includes all materials required. Each participant and group will have a parts budget to spend on the components they need:
- Spark Core / Photon Arduino compatible microcontroller
- Servo motors for precise motion
- Continuous rotation motors for wheels and other drive mechanisms
- Wide range of sensors such as light sensors, motion detectors, pressure sensors, trigger switches and more
One week participants will still get to learn the skills and contribute to a group project, they just won’t be able to contribute to the whole 2-week process.
