Lasercut Cityscape Making

Lasercut Cityscape Making

Challenge Level: None
Students per mentor

What is this workshop?

In this workshop you’ll make a laser cut Cityscape that has three parts – arduino controlled neopixels (insides), laser cut casing (outsides), and a you-designed laser cut layered image that lights up (the pretty part).

You’ll get to program you’re own lighting pattern using the arduino, and learn how to use Adobe Illustrator to make your own custom layered design.

For those with less comfort designing their own light, we will have plenty of pre-made designs and inspiration for you to choose from and/or tweak to make your own.

Skills you will learn:

  • how to make an animated LED pattern with neopixels using Arduino
  • how to make a 2D design for laser cutting on Adobe Illustrator
  • how to make a custom box casing

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is perfect for people who are absolute beginners. We’ll start from the beginning, explain any technical language that we’re using, and help you troubleshoot along the way.

What do I bring?

Nothing needed! If you’d like to bring your own computer with Illustrator installed, please do. No worries if you don’t have a laptop or illustrator though – the default is that we provide these for you in the lab.
